Grafik art, printmaking
Maria Lutsak is a Ukrainian graphic artist who works in various techniques of printmaking as well as drawing in watercolor and ink.
Born into a family of artists in Kyiv, she grew up surrounded by sculpture and painting, so she started drawing as a child. Then the young artist went to improve her skills at the Taras Shevchenko State Art High School and finally to the National Academy of Fine Arts and Architecture in Kyiv. During her studies, Maria found her new passion - printmaking (filigree work on etchings, engravings and monotypes), because this type of visual art is still one of her favorite ways to express her creative ideas. Maria draws inspiration for her works mainly from her own environment, particularly nature. When working on monotype, she uses her own collected and dried flowers and herbs, which she composes in a composition, covers with paint and prints on paper. In her watercolor works, Maria combines a masterful mastery of classical technique with modern, sometimes surrealistic sensibilities. A significant place in the artist's work is occupied by working with ink, but not in its usual use, but with the use of a lot of water, which allows the ink to flow freely - in this process, Maria seeks a certain balance between restraint and expression.
Because of the war in Ukraine, the artist was forced to leave Kyiv, her studio and her work in the art studio, so she lives and works in Berlin.
